memory blanket update

I posted earlier this year about my plans for knitting a blanket, my third. You may remember I was making a mitred square blanket out of all the 8ply leftovers from my knitting projects. That was over six months ago and I did promise I'd share some of my progress.

Well, six months in at I've managed to knit up a lot of leftovers, so much in fact that my blanket now measures 10 squares by 16 squares plus (by that, I mean I'm halfway through a strip of squares.  I have knit 164 squares to be precise, which makes it currently about single bed size.  There are over 30 different yarns in there and many ends that are yet to be sewn in. Oh well.

After loads and loads of requests, I added the instructions for the blanket to the Ravelry database. You can find it there under the name Memory Blanket. It's pretty easy to guess how it got its name. Oh look, there's the yarn from Toby's hoodless Griffin! Naturally, it's a freebie.  I've just updated the pattern with a little more detail in the instructions, so you may wish to download it again if you have previously downloaded it. I'm quite surprised at how many thousands of downloads there has already been on Ravelry!

There is also a long-term Knit-A-Long thread for the Memory Blanket in my Ravelry Group and it's a bit awesome to see a few more people getting sucked into the blanket addiction every day. Yay!

If you are an Instagrammer, there is of course a hashtag #memoryblanketkal. I'd love to see your progress. It really does seem to spur each other on.

My only issue with my blanket is that I am getting low on some colours, and I fear that the need for those colours may begin to dictate my knitting and yarn choices, rather than the projects randomly providing some colour. I really do need to knit something in some bright yellow next.....

The other thing I've noticed is that instead of being exhilarated when I win a very hard fought and close yarn of yardage chicken, I'm actually a little disappointed that I don't have enough yarn for a square!! I recently finished a gorgeous WOOLganics hand-dyed grey cardigan for myself, an adult version of Joey, and I barely had a metre of yarn left. In a past life, I would have been whooping it up, but not now that the blanket addiction has taken hold.

Well, I best go and knit a square or two. After all this blanket talk I can hear it calling me. Hmmm, which colour to choose next...

What about you? What are your current knitting addictions?

Well, I'm completely addicted to this Memory Blanket too, now that the KAL has drawn me in! I'm knitting it right now while James plays guitar. Very relaxing.

Yep - I'm short on yellow too. Maybe we should have a yellow KAL too!
And I'm with you in the lack of appeal for yardage chicken too. I think I will have to buy extra yarn for future projects so I have leftovers :) Kinda seems wrong somehow....

Hi Diane, I think you've been given some incorrect information as no, I don't have a you tube video showing how to join the squares. There are some photos in the pattern itself.
